Mushroom identifier for iPhone

Know what it is.

Point your camera at a mushroom in the field. MushroomLens reads the cap, gills, and stem and names the most likely species — with a confidence score, the moment you scan.

① The species

One photo, one name.

Every scan returns a most-likely species with a confidence reading, not a vague hunch. See how sure the match is, browse the close runners-up, and confirm it against the field marks that matter.

Identification is for learning and reference only — not expert verification. For anything that matters to your safety, consult a qualified mycologist. Never decide whether a mushroom is edible based on this app.

② The match

The right species, confirmed.

Lookalikes are everywhere in the fungal world. MushroomLens reads the visible field marks, matches the most likely species, and shows a confidence ring — confirm it, or correct it by hand if it's off.

  • Frame the whole mushroom — cap, gills, stem, and base all carry clues.
  • A confidence ring shows how sure the match is.
  • Wrong match? Pick the right species from the close lookalikes in a tap.

③ The life list

Your life list, taking shape.

Save every mushroom you scan to a personal life list on your device. Sort, filter, and watch your field journal grow as you log new species, season after season.

FAQ

Good questions, straight answers.

Can I trust the identification to tell me what's safe to eat?

No. MushroomLens is a learning and reference tool, not a safety check. Never decide whether a mushroom is edible, pickable, or safe to handle based on this app. Many species have toxic lookalikes, and only a qualified expert examining the actual specimen can verify an identification.

How accurate is the identification, and what is the confidence score?

Each scan returns a most-likely species with a confidence score showing how sure the match is. It's a strong starting point, not a verdict — confidence is not certainty, lookalikes are common, and you should always confirm against multiple field marks.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Your life list, scan history, and preferences are primarily stored on your device. Optional Sign in with Apple and server-backed family features use an account. We use limited PostHog product analytics and AppsFlyer install attribution without IDFA or cross-app advertising tracking.

What happens to the photos I scan?

When online recognition is enabled, a photo you scan is sent securely to the recognition service to identify the species. It is not retained after processing, shared, or used for advertising.

Is anything free?

Yes — the naturalist guides are free to read, in the app and on this site. Unlimited identification and the full species profiles are part of MushroomLens Pro.

How do I cancel?

Cancel anytime in your App Store account settings. There's no free trial and no lock-in — the subscription simply stops renewing.

Which devices are supported?

MushroomLens is an iPhone app. Live Activities appear on iPhones with the Dynamic Island and on the Lock Screen.
